GOLD INFORMATION

Gold has been sought after since ancient times dating back to the Etruscan, Minoan, Assyrian and Egyptian civilizations. The earliest record of gold mining and production dates back to 3500 B.C. in Nubia. The Egyptians mined and produced gold into jewelry and other items of wealth and status.

Gold is measured in karats, not to be confused with the term “carats” used in diamond weight. Karats refer to the fractional parts of pure gold in 12k, 14k or 18k gold. The remaining parts are alloy metals to make gold harder and more durable. By varying the remaining parts of gold, pink or green gold can be produced. The more copper is pinker gold and the more silver is greener gold.

Our Dakota gold jewelry collection is a combination of 10k and 12k gold. The leaves are 12k gold and come in two colors, pink and green.

Black Hills Gold jewelry is made with 10k gold or sterling silver with 10k or 12k gold trim in pink, yellow or green designs.

Each piece in the Prairie Rose jewelry collection features this wild rose and is sometimes enhanced with the beauty of 12k gold pink and green leaves.

Gold-filled jewelry uses fabricated metal combining the low cost of a base metal with the beauty of gold. The hallmark of gold-filled jewelry is in the form of 1/20 14k GF which means 5% of the total weight is 14k.
